Bernard Peeters
I am Senior Partner at Tiberghien in Brussels and Luxembourg and have special expertise in corporate tax, mergers & acquisitions, private equity, international and European tax planning as well as double tax treaties. I have been included by Royal Decree of 20 July 2020 in the Belgian list of Independent persons of standing within the framework of the European Directive of 10 October 2017 on tax dispute resolution mechanisms in the EU. I lecture at the University of Brussels (VUB) on tax and fiscal law and am a frequent speaker at tax seminars both in Belgium and abroad. Drawing on my passion, I have written numerous fiscal-related monographs and articles having been a member of the editorial staff of “Tijdschrift voor Fiscaal Recht” and former chief editor of “Fiscoloog Internationaal”.
In 2011, I was appointed as auxiliary judge of the Antwerp Court of Appeal. I now regularly assist the Court in international tax cases and function as a lawyer at the Brussels and Luxembourg Bar. Furthermore, I was previously Chair of the tax and legal committee Invest Europe (European Venture Capital and Private Equity Association) and am currently a member of several other international tax and legal committees.
I joined Tiberghien in 1990 and became a Partner in 1992. Tiberghien is a prestigious and highly regarded tax firm with over 90 fee earners in Belgium and Luxembourg. Its founder, Albert Tiberghien, wrote history in fiscal law in Belgium and beyond. His principles, his entrepreneurial spirit and his scientific achievements do not only shape the tax landscape in Belgium but form the core values of the firm up to the present day.
